The English Dept. is a small and independently owned bridal boutique in the heart of Southeast Portland, right in the center of the Clinton neighborhood. We share our block with the famous + delicious Café Broder, the Clinton Street Theater where you can catch the Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday night, and Dots Cafe — the perfect stop for a cocktail after finding your perfect dress.
In 2005, founder and local designer Elizabeth Dye set out to create a new kind of bridal shop — one for the Pacific Northwest bride, that carried unique, independent, and trend-setting designers in an intimate and relaxed environment.
Fast forward 12 years, and today The English Dept. is run by local vintage maven Liz Gross, owner of Xtabay, and her tight-knit team of women: Annie, Addie, Grace, Lindsay and Alyssa, who all bring a little something different to each of their brides!
We specialize in understated, unique, high-quality gowns, from both sought-after and emerging designers, and are extremely proud to be small and independently owned. We work with local designers and wedding vendors as often as possible, and love our dear city! The boutique is tucked away from the street, and offers an intimate, relaxed, down-to-earth experience while keeping the professionalism and knowledge that is important to every bride for such a special occasion.
Whether you have been dreaming of this day your whole life, have no idea what you're doing, have an exact dress in mind, or definitely don't want to wear a wedding dress — we would love to meet you. Come in for some champagne and fun!
